In a noteworthy product launch event, Huawei Technologies (HWT.UL) commenced proceedings by expressing heartfelt appreciation to China for its unwavering support. This event, marked by great anticipation, comes at a time when the tech giant, grappling with U.S. restrictions, is expected to unveil further details about its recently introduced Mate 60 smartphone series.
The Mate 60 series, introduced discreetly just last month, has garnered significant praise from Chinese state media as a testament to Huawei’s resilience in the face of U.S. sanctions that have hindered its access to advanced chip manufacturing tools since 2019, dealing a substantial blow to its smartphone business.
While Huawei has kept a relatively low profile regarding the full capabilities of the Mate 60 series, reports from users and analysts who have experienced the Mate 60 Pro suggest that it features a domestically-produced chip and boasts impressive 5G capabilities.
Yu Chengdong, the CEO of Huawei’s consumer business group, set the tone for Monday’s showcase by extending “special thanks to the entire nation for their unwavering support, particularly since the launch of the Mate 60 Pro Pioneer Program.”
As Yu addressed the audience, chants of “far, far ahead” echoed through the venue, a phrase that has become a sensation on Chinese social media since the Mate 60 Pro’s launch, symbolizing Huawei’s enduring competitiveness.
Yu expressed, “Our products have received an exceptional response and earned the trust of consumers since their market debut. We are diligently working around the clock to ramp up production, ensuring that more people can enjoy our products.” This event took place in a stadium in Shenzhen and was broadcast live across Huawei stores, 156 local media outlets, and various Chinese social media platforms.
